There is nothing I enjoy more than writing restaurant reviews because I depend on them SO heavily when deciding where to spend my money and time. Frontier Restaurant came highly recommended on both food apps that I use frequently and it the kind of place I LOVE! If you follow my blog or my Zomato or Yelp accounts, you’ll soon find that I really enjoy small, “Mom and Pop” establishments. They tend to have a certain personality that I appreciate. While the Frontier Restaurant wouldn’t be considered small, I would definitely consider it a “Mom and Pop” kind of place.
The first thing I noticed was Frontier’s proximity to Albuquerque’s University of New Mexico. Location, Location, Location! How fortunate NMSU is to have this treasure nearby! The next thing I noticed about Frontier is that it appears that it was once in a strip shopping center and as businesses left, they took over the areas and increased their dining space (which equates into plentiful dining space). The next thing I noticed is their efficiency. They have EIGHT cash registers from which to order. (This must certainly come in handy for the college students in between classes!)
And lest you think that I have forgotten about the food, I noticed their incredible selection of food items! Breakfast is served all day! Salads, steaks, chicken strips, New Mexican food, burgers and sandwiches light up the menu. My friend and I wanted to experience as many New Mexican flavors as we could in one lunch so we shared a half enchilada dinner and a cup of Green Chili Stew and two Carne Adovada burritos and every bite was wonderful. (I have included pictures below, but I can honestly tell you that they do not do justice to the incredible flavors that we experienced.) Another thing I noticed was that each mouthwatering tortilla is made fresh as you are ordering. And the grand jewel of them all…the HOMEMADE Sweet Roll! While visiting, I saw a local Albuquerque television news segment on the Frontier Restaurant and they were featuring Frontier’s homemade sweet roll. While I didn’t try it on my first visit, the sweet roll will definitely be on my #bucketlist when I return for the Balloon Festival in October! And I cannot say how much I enjoyed watching the Frontier’s owner on the newscast. He completely personified the “Mom and Pop” experience that I loved most about the Frontier Restaurant.
The Frontier Restaurant is delicious food that won’t break the bank. So, if you’re in Albuquerque, NM, the Frontier Restaurant is a MUST. Unless it’s during the Balloon Festival, then, SAVE A TABLE for Travel and Table!
