Driving into Albuquerque, NM, I noticed a small, obscure restaurant, but because it was Sunday, it was closed. Later that evening, I was so excited when I realized that 1) it was on my list of restaurants to explore and 2) it was within 5 minutes of our AirBnB! Taqueria Mexico is near downtown Albuquerque, just minutes off of I-25. Conveniently located, this Taqueria has a wall lined with framed food awards it has won locally. And after tasting their food, I can see that the awards are well deserved.
We decided to have a late breakfast to miss the crowd. My friend, Mary Kay, ordered the Huevos Rancheros which came with rice, beans and tortillas and because she just couldn’t get enough of the Adovado (pork), she got an extra side. I ordered the Mexican Breakfast Burrito. Their portions were so filling that Mary Kay couldn’t even finish her meal. The breakfast burrito might not sound like a lot, but when it arrived, it was HUGE. I put a pretty good dent in mine even though I couldn’t finish it either. And it was all delicious! We met another couple from Houston, TX who was there on a return visit because their first trip years ago was so amazing.
So, I you’re near Abuquerque, give Taqueria Mexico a try! I think you’ll be glad you did. But if you go, plan wisely, they are closed on Sunday and the dining room space is limited. Or you could get your order to go!
